Adele:
Räumt die Billboard Music Awards ab

Adele war die große Gewinnerin bei den diesjährigen Billboard Music Awards. Obwohl sie am Sonntag, 20. Mai, die Preise nicht selbst entgegennehmen konnte, wurde die britische Sängerin bei der Verleihung in Las Vegas in zwölf Kategorien ausgezeichnet 211; unter anderem als beste Künstlerin und für ihr Album „21“.

Neben Adele konnte auch die Band LMFAO große Erfolge an dem Abend verbuchen. Das US-amerikanische Electro-Hip-Hop-Duo 211; bestehend aus Redfoo und seinem Neffen SkyBlu 211; erhielt dank ihres Hits „Party Rock Anthem“ sieben Auszeichnungen, während Coldplay viermal siegreich hervorging.

Mit jeweils zwei Statuetten wurden Lady Gaga, Casting Crowns und Jason Aldean belohnt. Unter den Musikern, die sich über jeweils einen Billboard Music Award freuen konnten, befanden sich Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé Knowles, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Kelly Rowland und Lil‘ Wayne.

Der Spotlight Award – eine Sonderauszeichnung – wurde derweil an Popstar Katy Perry („Firework“) überreicht, während Country-Sängerin Taylor Swift zur Frau des Jahres ernannt wurde. Der Millenium Award wurde posthum an Whitney Houston verliehen, die im Februar dieses Jahres gestorben war.

Der Billboard Music Icon Award ging indes an Stevie Wonder. Neben Houston wurden auch anderer kürzlich verstorbener Musikstars – darunter Disco-Queen Donna Summer, Bee Gees-Sänger Robin Gibb und Beastie Boys-Mitglied Adam Yauch – gedacht.
